High School Seniors

West Carolina awards a scholarship to one student in the West Carolina service area on a yearly basis.
- This scholarship is $8,000 and is distributed as $2,000 per year for 4 consecutive years as long as the criteria are met each year.
By applying for the West Carolina scholarship you are also applying for the FRS scholarships. There are approximately 42 FRS scholarships amounting to an approximate total of $124,000 awarded to students across the country each year. Over the past 10 years, students in the West Carolina service area have been awarded more than 10 of these scholarships.
Any student in the West Carolina service area is eligible to apply as long as their parent or legal guardian is a West Carolina customer.
This scholarship is NOT based on GPA – the essay, community involvement, and any hardships mentioned are most important for these applications!

The James L. Bass Legal Scholarship will be awarded in the Spring of 2025 and be at least $5,000.
All applications must be submitted by February 16, 2025.
The scholarship will be awarded on a one-time basis and will not be renewable. The scholarship cannot be deferred.
The award will be paid upon proof of enrollment and registration at a law school. The award will be paid directly to the educational institution the student will attend.
The scholarship will be awarded without regard to race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, or disability.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
The recipient will be notified in May/June 2025.
The awardee will forfeit their scholarship if mandatory paperwork is not received by FRS within 60 days of notification that they have been selected.
